Mies van der Rohe - The MoMA Collages - Aachen, Oct 28 2016 - Feb 12 2017
The City of Aachen will celebrate Mies with "Mies van der Rohe. The MoMA Collages", an exhibition at the Ludwig Forum in Aachen, from October 28, 2016 to February 12, 2017.
Thanks to the extraordinarily generous loans of the MoMA, the exhibition will show for the first time in Europe an extensive selection of collages and photomontages of the Aachen-born architect created between 1910 and 1965.
Influenced by Dada, Constructivism, and De Stijl, Mies drew extensively on these new pictorial techniques to visualize his artistic ideas on the ‘Neues Bauen’ in competitions, exhibitions, and journals. At the same time, these collages and photomontages are autonomous works.
The connection between art and architecture is the focal point of the exhibition.
The exhibition will also be accompanied by works of contemporary artists who – like Thomas Ruff, Mischa Kuball, or Sarah Morris – have directly engaged with Mies’s work or indeed specially created two works for the occasion.

In addition to this exhibition, the Knoll dealer Mathes in Aachen will have a special display dedicated to Mies and some iconic and contemporary products, including Avio Sofa System by Piero Lissoni.
